Blake Hart Secures Signatures Needed Signatures!

Press Release: For Immediate Release

Haywood County, NC — Unaffiliated candidate Blake Hart announced today that his campaign successfully collected and submitted enough signatures to be included on the November ballot for Haywood County Commissioner.

Reaching the signature threshold marks a significant milestone for an unaffiliated, grassroots campaign built by volunteers and community supporters across Haywood County.

“This achievement belongs to the people of Haywood County,” said Hart. “Many people signed because they are tired of a system that only presents them with two options and campaigns that fail to address the issues facing our communities.”

A Community-Centered Leader

Hart brings 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience, including 12 years in senior leadership roles, working to strengthen communities, improve access to essential goods and services, and build collaborative partnerships. Throughout his career, Hart has focused on solving complex problems with transparency, fiscal responsibility, and community engagement. “Hurricane Helene highlighted the need for more collaborative efforts in our county that listen to local communities, partner on the local level, and build on the assets we have so that we can thrive together.”

As an Appalachian from birth, Hart is running to ensure that local government reflects the values and needs of the people it serves and invests in the well-being of the people.

Priorities for Haywood County

With ballot access secured, the campaign will now focus on crafting a clear vision for the future of Haywood County centered on three key priorities:

Responsible Development
Haywood County is growing — but growth without planning threatens farmland, natural beauty, and the rural character that defines our community. Hart supports smart, responsible development that protects open spaces, strengthens infrastructure, and ensures that growth benefits residents without overwhelming roads, schools, and other public services.

Addressing Affordability
Despite our county’s strengths, too many families struggle with hunger, economic hardship, and the out of control costs of living in rural Appalachia. Hart believes the County Commission must take a more active role in addressing the root causes of poverty, supporting local nonprofits and community partners to ensure county resources are used strategically to improve quality of life for all residents.

A Warm and Welcoming Community
Haywood County should be a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued. Hart is committed to leadership that is welcoming, transparent, and conducive to civic participation — ensuring county government works for people of all backgrounds.

Looking Ahead

“This campaign is about balance — protecting what makes Haywood County special while preparing responsibly for the future,” said Hart. “We can preserve our rural heritage, strengthen and grow our economy, and care for our neighbors at the same time.”

Over the coming months, Hart will host listening sessions, attend community events, and meet with residents across the county to hear directly about their concerns and ideas.
