It is becoming harder and harder for families to call Haywood County home. Rapid loss of good paying jobs, out of control housing costs, and an extreme lack of childcare are among some of the causes. We need commissioners to work for solutions to these and other challenges facing Haywood County families.
Good paying jobs…
The County Commissioners need to take the lead in collaborating with municipalities and businesses to revitalize industrial areas, bringing good paying jobs to our county.
…and the training to match.
In collaboration with the top notch Haywood Community College, the county needs to work to develop job training pipelines like other counties have, training local students to fill the jobs that will help them and their families succeed.
Houses we can afford to make our homes
The Haywood County Commissioners need to explore development restrictions that allow for more housing that can be purchased by local families instead of outside investors looking for short-term rentals.
Childcare that helps families and invests in our future
We should work for solutions to the lack and unaffordability of childcare such as the Tri-Care pilot of the State that is supported by the NC Chamber. It provides for a three-way split of childcare costs between the state, the employer, and the employee. We should work with the state to expand and enact programs like that here!
